Kerala has reported 105 confirmed and 62 probable cases of chikungunya as of August 4, with most cases in Thiruvananthapuram. The increase is attributed to favorable conditions for mosquito breeding during the monsoon. Chikungunya is a viral disease transmitted by Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus mosquitoes, which is rarely fatal but can cause severe and prolonged joint pain.
