ABOUT THE ATLAS

Well-informed travel is safer travel.

The Global Risk Atlas is a tool developed by the iO Foundation that provides a clear, up-to-date and visual overview of the main risks associated with each destination in the world. From climate threats to security problems or health risks, the atlas categorizes each of them to help you make informed decisions.

A dynamic world requires dynamic information.

This atlas is not a static map, but a living system powered by H Radar, our global epidemiological intelligence and alert platform. Thanks to its ability to integrate real-time information from official sources, peer-reviewed media and international surveillance networks, the Global Risk Atlas is constantly updated to reflect the world’s emerging and changing risks.

The risk index – expressed on a scale from 0 to 10 – is calculated using a proprietary algorithm developed by the iO Foundation, based on dynamic models and criteria validated by scientific literature, technical reports and specialized journals. This methodology allows for a rigorous, geolocalized and continuously evolving assessment, capable of offering a precise and reliable vision for each area of the world.

Designed to understand and act.

The infographic-like iconography, color coding and categorization by areas (safety, health, natural conditions, transportation, etc.) make it easy for anyone – travel professionals, organizations, frequent travelers or families – to interpret the information and use it as a reference and recommendation guide.

Your risk compass for a changing world.

In a planet where conditions can change from one day to the next, having a tool such as the Global Risk Atlas is key to prepare, prevent and protect yourself. Make it your ally before any trip.

Our sources

Global Risk Atlas is based on the power of the Heimdllr Project, a solution developed by the iO Foundation. It is a global system of applied epidemiological intelligence, designed for early detection, dynamic analysis and contextual understanding of events that threaten public health worldwide.

Heimdllr collects, processes and verifies information from multiple reliable and verified sources, including international bodies, government agencies, early warning systems, scientific literature and digital surveillance. Each alert generated is analyzed from an epidemiological and contextual perspective, answering key questions:

What is happening? Who is being affected? Why and how does it spread? What measures can stop it?

Our system includes not only infectious disease outbreaks, but also climate risks, humanitarian crises, natural disasters, accidents with casualties and other events with an impact on collective health. This holistic view allows us to understand and visualize risk in a comprehensive, up-to-date and action-oriented way.

Thanks to Heimdllr, Global Risk Atlas offers structured, cross-cutting and constantly evolving knowledge to support travelers, health professionals, institutions and citizens.
