The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) is investigating a locally acquired case of chikungunya fever (CF) in Tai Kok Tsui, Hong Kong.

The patient, a 55-year-old woman, developed symptoms on September 7 and was admitted to Queen Elizabeth Hospital on September 16, testing positive for CF. She has no recent travel history, classifying her as a local case. Hong Kong has recorded three confirmed CF cases this year (one local, two imported), compared to 82 last year (11 local).

Prevention and control measures are being implemented, including inspections and mosquito control in areas close to the patient’s residence. A hotline and a health consultation station have been set up for the public.
