The chikungunya epidemic in Guyana remains active, with 1,057 biologically confirmed cases since the end of January, including 44 new cases between June 29 and July 5. There have been 201 hospitalizations, 21 of which were for unusual forms of the disease and eight for severe cases. One death has been reported, although not directly related to the infection.
The most active outbreaks are concentrated in the West Coast and the Savannah (level 2 alert), while Cayenne Island is at level 1. The Interior, East Interior, and Oyapock remain on epidemiological alert with no confirmed cases.
