The Ministry of Health of Costa Rica reports on a chikungunya outbreak in Pavas, San José. 22 people have been analyzed, with 12 confirmed cases, 3 probable, 3 pending, and 4 discarded. The cases are concentrated in Villa Esperanza, Finca San Juan, Laureles, Pavas Centro, and Rohrmoser. Initially linked to travel to Nicaragua, local transmission is now confirmed. Epidemiological surveillance and vector control have been reinforced with fogging and inspections to eliminate breeding sites for the Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus mosquitoes. The public is urged to take protective measures, use repellent, mosquito nets, and eliminate containers that collect water. If symptoms such as high fever and joint pain occur, it is recommended to go to a health center.
