A gradual decrease in chikungunya cases is observed in Argentina after a peak in late April. Ninety-five new cases were reported in the last week of May.
During the 2025-2026 season, 12,408 suspected cases and 2,642 confirmed/probable cases were reported, concentrated in the Northwest (96%), primarily in Salta, Tucumán, and Jujuy. Outbreaks have been recorded in Catamarca (Capital), Santiago del Estero (Capital), and Buenos Aires (Lomas de Zamora, Merlo, Quilmes), with cases detected in the City of Buenos Aires and Córdoba. Imported cases originated in Bolivia, Brazil, Paraguay, and Cuba.
Local transmission has been confirmed in Salta.
The median age is 33 years, with the highest incidence among people aged 45-65. Fifty-five percent of cases are women. Five severe cases were reported, including two deaths. One hundred sixty-five people required hospitalization.
