First cases of Chikungunya in Senegal in 2026

Senegal‘s Ministry of Health reported the first six confirmed cases of chikungunya in 2026, recorded in the week ending June 13 in six regions of the country. No deaths were reported.

Ten cases were recorded in Senegal last year.

The disease is transmitted by mosquitoes, and the most common symptoms are fever and joint pain, with recovery in most cases within a week, although some may experience chronic joint pain.
