The state of Bahia, Brazil, recorded 8,117 probable cases of chikungunya between January 4 and August 10, 2026, representing a 310.8% increase compared to the same period in 2025. One death from the disease was confirmed. A total of 188 municipalities reported cases, with Alagoinhas having the highest incidence rate.
In Salvador, 308 confirmed cases were recorded through July 2026, an increase of over 1,000% compared to 2025. Health authorities have intensified measures to control the Aedes aegypti mosquito. Nationally, Brazil reported 116,095 cases of chikungunya through August 8, 2026.
