Over 1,000 cases of Chikungunya in Guyana

Since the end of January (S04), 1,003 cases of chikungunya have been confirmed in Guyana, with 63 new cases last week.

There have been 174 hospitalizations of probable or confirmed cases. The median age of cases is 25 years, and 10% are under 3 years old.

The virus continues to spread in the territory, with areas such as the West Coast, Savanes, Cayenne Island, and Maron experiencing different phases of the epidemic. Cayenne Island has seven active outbreaks.
