A study in Oguma, Nigeria, analyzed 200 febrile patients.
Antibodies against the chikungunya virus were detected in 4.5% (9 cases), with 2% having IgM and 2.5% having IgG. 1.5% of patients with active chikungunya also had malaria, and 1% had only chikungunya. 30% of patients had malaria alone.
Active chikungunya cases were observed only in men (4.3%). The circulation of the chikungunya virus in the area is confirmed, albeit at a low level.
